What's Hot this Autumn/Winter?
Autumn/Winter 2026 Handbag Trends
The weather is certainly changing here in Auckland. The wind is chillier and the nights are creeping in sooner. It’s starting to feel like we should be all rugged up, winter is coming, and yet the odd day of burning sunshine reminds us we haven’t left summer behind altogether.
As we start to pull out the winter woollies, which handbags should we be shuffling to the front of our wardrobes so that we’re feeling ready for Autumn/Winter 2026?
Structured → Slouchy
Where 2025 was more about the structured handbag, 2026 is leaning into slouchy, relaxed, but still modern, shapes.
Think crescent, dumpling, bucket, asymmetric styles, elongated shoulder straps.
Bags this season are:
- softer
- slightly oversized
- offer a modern twist to classic shapes
- designed to be used
Many have that slightly undone look that feels very wearable in every day life.
Suede
Suede is definitely still here - this years suede bags are soft, relaxed and often paired with everyday outfits.
Think chocolate browns, warm caramels, soft taupes, earthy greens and deep navy tones. Adding warmth and texture while still feeling effortless. Chain straps or handbag jewellery add textural contrast and individuality.
Texture
There is a strong emphasis on tactile materials this season.
We’re seeing:
- suede (of course)
- buttery soft leather
- pebbled leather
- padded or slightly puffy finishes
- croc-effect having a real moment
- metallic accents
Texture is doing the styling for you this year. Even the simplest outfits are elevated by adding a bag with depth and interest.
The Rise of High–Low Styling
We’re seeing a strong move towards high–low dressing, and I am here for it.
That bag that was once reserved for special occasions is now being worn with jeans and trainers, which, honestly, feels like the perfect combination. Comfortable clothes with a fabulous bag? Yes please.
To achieve the look, try pairing your more elevated pieces with everyday staples like:
- t-shirts
- relaxed denim
- oversized knits
- activewear
So… What Should You Be Reaching For?
Before you go out and buy something new, have a look in your wardrobe. You might already be sitting on this season’s trends.
Pull forward:
- your suede bags
- anything soft or slightly slouchy
- larger everyday styles you may have packed away
- bags with texture or a bit of personality
- your “special bags” - every day is a “special bag” kind of day this Autumn/Winter.
And don’t be afraid to style them more casually than you might have before. This season isn’t about being perfectly polished. It’s about bags that feel lived-in and loved.
